Why does everyone hate Diane Sawyer's hair?
Everyone privately snickers about Diane Sawyer's seemingly unchangeable helmit of a hairdo, so when she made fun of Howard Dean's wife's hair, one could not help but think: "How sad that no one has the nerve to tell her of the log in her own hair."
"Oh, but she thinks it looks great! Why do you think she never changes it?" said cosmetologist, I.P. Rivers, 211 Ocean Boulevard, Myrtle Beach, SC 30122-6453. "Personally, I think Mrs. Dean has nearly perfect hair. And beyond that, I think the subject is adolescent and beneath even the worst of journalism freshmen. How long has she been in bidness? A hundred years?"
Mr. Rivers has a good point. Where most people hope to get better and better at their craft with age, Mrs. Sawyer seems to be showing signs of senility.
But alone, she is not. Even archons of the trade, such as Jennings, Koppel and Brokaw, seem to have sold their impartiality to the highest bidder. And impartiality is the gold newspersons once sought to achieve in their quest for the the grail of truth, the nail of everyday crosses, the syntax beyond the decree.

When I saw this great, great, speech on SC Public Television, I felt that here, in Wesley Clark, was a great man equal to the task set forth by Abraham, Martin and John. And I pray to God that he is not received with the same lack of welcome. So far, the Media seems to want to thwart the good Mr. Clark at every turn.
If only they saw that they are on the wrong side of history. And all for the fine booty the overstuffed Bush coffers will lay at their door. Big Media votes with it's own pocketbook...and they stand to win big with Bush and his barrel of millions. But every day that Tom then Peter then Dan takes the bait and sells their soul...I hear yet another complain about how they no longer like or trust them.
It is already showing. But they could plug the leak in their character before it is irredeemable. The Dennis Millers of the world will fall from "grace" at the first gaff, since the strings that move them are made of cheap silk.
The fine gentlemen who representing the Democratic Party will not stand being Gored again. At least Fox replaced the laughable Tony Snow with a much less partial Chris Wallace. Why are the networks turning into Tony Snows?
Here's what you do: Sneak a copy of Meister Eckhart's sermons, and read up on "Disinterest". Then you will see what wild riches may be won by simply being impartial, indifferent, disinterested...meaning no special interest is pulling your strings.
If anyone is depended upon to be impartial, it is the News.
We wouldn't tolerate a doctor telling us all sorts of spin about our condition, why should we accept it from what could be social doctors?
Quit thwarting Wesley Clark in his mission to manifest Martin Luther King's great vision. Remember the boycotts too. They are not simply a tool of history. And the Media is not immune. Think at the top of your intelligence. Act from the top of your being. Quit being Mammoniacal whores. Do it for your mother.

Jennings, Hume looked splotchy in weak FOX production of Democratic Debate
Last night's Democratic Debate made one thing clear. Fox has poor production values. Did you see how bad Jennings and Hume looked in that horrible light? FOX...leave it to the experts, and go back to spreading Bush propaganda. It's what you are paid to do, after all. But I do hope you understand the gross disservice you are doing to America. Bad information is worse than no information at all. ou are creating a society of morons...who do not even see the hoodwink you have slipped over their little heads, probably during a sneak-and-peak.

Now that the anti-Dean forces (Corporate Media, etc) have opened the door to question sanity, or the lack thereof, it is, I presume, fair and balanced to also question the sanity, or lack thereof, of Bush and his administration. Fox is to be credited for making impartiality a quality to shoot for...even though they are the most egregious hypocrites of all, since they are a pure mouthpiece for one side only.
Is George W Bush insane? Google has roughly 55,000 websites that broach the question...whereas only about 40,000 references come up for Bill Clinton.

George has a peculiar habit, and it's practically an institution by now. He will say things which have more than one meaning. For example, last night, in the State of the Union address, he says: "No one can now doubt the word of America.". Well, to some people, foreigners in particular, but not just them, it means that it is now illegal to doubt the word of America...meaning, frankly, him. A metonymy he stole.
Someone should ask him if that is what he means, and then make sure he clarifies it. As Erich Fromm once said: "Civilization was born in an act of disobedience...and is likely to end in an act of obedience."

Edwards vs Bush : Who is better looking?
Senator Edwards is one good-looking man. Probably one reason the Big Media has been afraid to show him too often. They know. They know that people generally vote for the better-looking candidate. And the more visual a society we become, the more likely this is to be true.
But what makes Edwards attractive is his outward focus. A self-conscious beauty is a bore, but Senator Edwards is interested, and has spent his life helping, others.
I have to make a confession though. He looks like my dear nephew, only 30 years older. My nephew is the same way; selfless and other-focussed...and immensely intelligent...which, I suspect is the case for Mr. Edwards, from what I've seen, heard and read.
This brings up the problem of Kerry. Kerry is a great guy, but he seems to lack the glow of Edwards, Dean and Clark...an older gentleman. And as shallow as this is, it is still a factor in replacing Mr. Bush.
But looks aside...of all the major candidates, Edwards has the most positives...and the least negatives. Add to that the fact that he is from the South...both North AND South Carolina (often very different in voting patterns), and you've got a pretty strong contender.
They are all good candidates, except the right-leaning and plastic Joe-doll. Perhaps they, and we, should follow Mr. Edwards' lead, and go after Bush, instead of each other.
Clark and Edwards have remained above the fray, and may well seize the day.
There is no way Bush and Cheney could lose to such a team.
So many good possibilities! Don't shoot the angels.
Clark, Edwards, Dean and the Humanitarian Superpower
General Clark, John Edwards and Howard Dean have all expressed the potent notion that America would be better off as a humanitarian superpower -- where our power and wealth serve to create allies and friends, rather than enemies -- thus securing our borders...by removing the need for them.
This attitude is, in the long run, the more efficient and effective model for long-term survival...both at home and abroad. Obviously! It also happens to comport with natural laws, long-held wisdom from high cultures throughout civilization...including Judeo-Christianity...originally an Eastern religion.
Bush's policy of preemption, however, the opposite model, and needs to be rejected.
If pro-lifers are truly pro-life, and not just a sort of specialized and reductionistic sect who only cares in the pre-birth phase...they too would reject Bush and his anti-Life policies...

Laughable throwback, Zell Miller, to serve as Bush footman
Dixiecrat can't shake his racist roots, and slowheadedly makes his way to the white guy party.
Someone forgot to tell Mister Miller that the Republican Party absorbed the racially motivated Dixiecrats years ago. Some people are just slow, I guess. The Democrats are now the party for racial justice and harmony, unlike some Democrats of his day...who, unlike Lincoln, were the defenders of segregation and other social diseases of the Old South, which he may be pining to return.

In BushWorld, people are customers; folk to be suckered into buying their products. This is because George got an MBA, and he got it from Harvard, which, deep down, makes him proud. It is a damn shame he didn't get it from the divinity school, because he would have been able to make a real contribution to the world, rather than merely extract contributions from the rich white handful he impresses. I am not particularly impressed. He probably went to the B-School in those years when all anyone learnt was how to make money more quickly. But even with his paper, he was slow on the uptake. Pre-Kenny-boy days, no doubt.
Anyway, here we are, customers buying products...from the White House. And they have access to all our records and buying pattterns. This is not Big Brother. This is Big Cookie. A brother is human. This in inhuman. Numbers. Products and bottom lines.
Caveat Emptor. Buyers of the world, beware! Forget the Alamo. Remember Enron!
This is transplant Bush's Texas. And now Texas is becoming the world. And it is not a becoming sight. It looks like Iraq. And smells of burning oil. The product from Hell.
Do not go there. There is a better idea. Heaven on Earth. Embody it, and radiate gardens. Not minefields. Not products, dangerous products.
You are more than a mere consumer. You are a full human being. Just like everyone else.

Mr. Kucinich is probably the closest thing to being my alter-ego...and that is both what excites me and worries me about the dear fellow. And whether or not he wins or doesn't...I hope he is included within whatever team rises to the top positions. There is no better person to head the Department of Peace, or to be a trusted and visionary councillor. He best represents what is best about America at its most visionary and creative. More power to him! And thanks, Duchess, for reminding me that he is still in the running. Lord knows the Media would have us forget...

Former Treasury Secretary and heir to an ancient name, Paul O'Neill, has lately been doing his ancestors proud by standing up to those lessers who would pretend to best him, name Mister George W. Bush, champion of rich white guys and international loose cannon.
Ask yourself: Did you ever really think Mr. Bush was engaged in anthing other than paybacks and personal gain? Apparently neither did Mr. O'Neill.
May others be so true to their roots...and the truth. Each little act serves to make us a better nation, even though it may be a temporary drudge, so to speak.

Peter Jennings, Martha Radditz and ABC News are to be commended for showing us this astonishing video of the nonchalance of life and death in at least some of the minds, sadly our minds, in Iraq. I am appalled at this kind of activity, and can't help but think that we have been pulled into a tit-for-tat of evil deeds. It is a strange twist of fate, I suppose, that after presenting this awful scene, Mr. Jennings introduces the next segment with "Mars dramatically infected, um, affected, by Bush policies..." Maybe Mr. Jennings could not sit and take the fact that we have been driven to such horrible acts of nonchalant murder. Is this micropreemption? Where does preemption stop?
With a new president?
Well...if we must, we must. And not only Christians, but Jews, Muslims, Catholics, Buddhists, Taoists, Presbyterians, atheists, agnostics, and Baptists are disturbed by such things as we have witnessed today. And we know that it is not what Jesus would do. It is also not what Buddha, Gandhi, Muhammed, Lao Tse, Martin Luther King, or Martin Buber, for that matter, would do. It is supremely impolite if nothing else.
But it is something else. And there absolutely has to be a better way. If this is the best Bush can do...we need to demand better, and vote him from office. An office he seized in the first place.
What is it with Texans, anyway?
Will Mars be the sharks and Condit of 9-10? We need to demand more of our News organs. The happy news comes on after the real news. Demand tough reporting from that which shares a mere 18 minutes or so with us. We are on to "junk-food news". Who's up and who's down, recurring weather phenomena, bla bla bla.
Maybe Mr. Jennings and his wondrous crew can earn their keep by rising to the highest standards of their trade, as they have done lately. And then maybe others will then have to follow.
That is how to achieve leadership. Be the best at doing what you are supposed to be doing. You're good enough. You're smart enough. And doggone it...people like you!

Raleigh: Attorney General Roy Cooper today asked a court to return North Carolina's original copy of the U.S. Bill of Rights, stolen from the state Capitol in 1865. "North Carolina's copy of the Bill of Rights is a piece of our history and a symbol of our freedom," said Cooper. "We want to see our copy of the Bill of Rights returned to its rightful owners, the people of North Carolina." In documents filed today with the U.S. District Court in Raleigh, Cooper contends that a copy of the Bill of Rights seized from an antiques dealer last month is the legal property of North Carolina and should be returned to the state. The documents detail how state officials had attempted to recover North Carolina's copy of the Bill of Rights several times since 1865. Newspaper reports from 1897 indicated that the document hung on a wall in the Indianapolis office of Charles Shotwell, who admitted that he had bought it for $5 from an Ohio soldier in 1865 but refused to return it to North Carolina. In 1925, a Pennsylvania dealer contacted the state about purchasing the document. The North Carolina Historical Commission told the dealer that the document had been stolen and was the property of North Carolina. The location of the document was unknown for 70 years until a Washington, DC attorney offered to sell it to the state for $3 million to $10 million in 1995. North Carolina again asserted that it would not pay for property stolen from the state. The document dates back to 1789, when President George Washington presented handwritten copies of the U.S. Bill of Rights to North Carolina and the 12 other signatory states. North Carolina's copy was sent to Raleigh and placed on display for several years. Toward the close of the Civil War, state officials removed the Bill of Rights and other important documents from Raleigh to protect them. When the armistice ended the war on April 26, 1865, the documents were returned to the state capitol, which was then occupied by U.S. General William Sherman's army. A federal soldier allegedly took the Bill of Rights sometime during the occupation. Missing from the state since 1865, North Carolina's copy of the Bill of Rights resurfaced in March when state officials learned that a Connecticut antiques dealer was offering it for sale to the National Constitutional Center in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania officials contacted the state about the document, which experts had determined to be North Carolina's original copy. Cooper assembled a team of attorneys who worked closely with Governor Mike Easley's office and U.S. Attorneys in Raleigh and Philadelphia to recover the document. U.S. Marshals were able to retrieve it during a federal undercover operation on March 18. "This document belongs to the people of North Carolina, not to the highest bidder," said Cooper. "We are determined to bring it home once and for all."

Cooper assembled a team of attorneys who worked closely with Governor Mike Easley's office and the U.S. Attorney's office in Raleigh to recover the document.
"Our goal was to reclaim a piece of North Carolina's history. This document is a sign of our freedom, not just a collector's item," said North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper. "We now look forward to seeing our copy of the Bill of Rights returned to its rightful owners, the people of North Carolina."
The U.S. Bill of Rights was signed in 1789 by the original thirteen colonies, including North Carolina. At that time, President George Washington provided each signatory state with an original handwritten copy of the document. North Carolina's copy was sent to Raleigh where it was on display for several years. Toward the close of the Civil War, state officials removed the Bill of Rights and other important documents from Raleigh to protect them. When the armistice ended the war on April 26, 1865, the documents were returned to the state capitol, which was then occupied by U.S. General William Sherman's army. A federal soldier allegedly took North Carolina's copy of the Bill of Rights sometime during the occupation.

The documents detail how state officials had attempted to recover North Carolina's copy of the Bill of Rights several times since 1865. Newspaper reports from 1897 indicated that the document hung on a wall in the Indianapolis office of Charles Shotwell, who admitted that he had bought it for $5 from an Ohio soldier in 1865 but refused to return it to North Carolina. In 1925, a Pennsylvania dealer contacted the state about purchasing the document. The North Carolina Historical Commission told the dealer that the document had been stolen and was the property of North Carolina. The location of the document was unknown for 70 years until a Washington, DC attorney offered to sell it to the state for $3 million to $10 million in 1995. North Carolina again asserted that it would not pay for property stolen from the state. The document dates back to 1789, when President George Washington presented handwritten copies of the U.S. Bill of Rights to North Carolina and the 12 other signatory states. North Carolina's copy was sent to Raleigh and placed on display for several years. Toward the close of the Civil War, state officials removed the Bill of Rights and other important documents from Raleigh to protect them. Cooper assembled a team of attorneys who worked closely with Governor Mike Easley's office and U.S. Attorneys in Raleigh and Philadelphia to recover the document. U.S. Marshals were able to retrieve it during a federal undercover operation on March 18. "This document belongs to the people of North Carolina, not to the highest bidder," said Cooper. "We are determined to bring it home once and for all."

"Our goal was to reclaim a piece of North Carolina's history. This document is a sign of our freedom, not just a collector's item," said North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper. "We now look forward to seeing our copy of the Bill of Rights returned to its rightful owners, the people of North Carolina."
The U.S. Bill of Rights was signed in 1789 by the original thirteen colonies, including North Carolina. At that time, President George Washington provided each signatory state with an original handwritten copy of the document. North Carolina's copy was sent to Raleigh where it was on display for several years. Based on information provided by Cooper and Governor Easley, federal officials in Raleigh and Philadelphia were able to locate the document and retrieve it during an undercover operation on March 18. The United States Marshal sought and received a seizure warrant from Chief United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. The document will continue to be held pending the resolution of any associated legal claims.
North Carolina's copy of the Bill of Rights is expected to arrive Federal Courthouse in Raleigh by early next week. The document will then be shown to the public for the first time since 1865.
"Thanks to the cooperation of the United States Attorneys and the quick work of the FBI and the United States Marshal, North Carolina's copy of the Bill of Rights is coming home," said Cooper.

Clark/Dean/Edwards: The Dream Sequence
Of all the Democratic Candidates, the three gentlemen, Clark, Dean and Edwards, have the most to offer America and the Democratic Party. Any other combination will carry too much baggage to be able to soundly defeat George W. Bush.
The best team in 2004 is either Clark/Dean, Clark/Edwards or Dean/Edwards...and of those, the strongest at this point is Clark/Dean...but not Dean/Clark. Clark has already said he will not be VP, and no need to make a liar out of him. Besides, he is older, wiser, and more experienced in what America must face in this terroristic world, than Dean. President Clark can and will put America on a stronger and safer footing, and do so by improving America's standing in the world. He would make America beloved again, and make sure the military is not used for frivolous or corporate ends.

A handful of fatcats, basically. Not you and me, or anyone we know. People who already have too much, and are neurotically demanding even more.
It is stupid to automatically associate the military with Republicans, as so many seem to do. Republicans suck at it. Republicans allow our boys and girls to die for untrue causes and corporate profit. Clark would never allow this to occur under his watchful and experienced care. Clark would bring the Military back to the people, and take it out of the hands of corporate masters.
Clark would also undermine Bush's ability to use the war or the military as a feather in his cap. Bush would cower before Clark on these matters. But Clark would never cower before Bush. Not on military matters, especially.
And while Clark is winning over the great majority, Dean will bring home the medical and health care folks, the pro-peace majority, the Internet crowd, and, of course, his vast net of current supporters.
Bush will not be able to pit Medicine and Law against one another, as he has tried to do. Bush's words on the matter would ring hollow, and Dean can best him on ever point.
Besides...Dean is the current front-runner!
So what about John Edwards and how does Clark become the front runner without hurting Dean (or Edwards)?
John Edwards will eventually become president of the United States. But it might well be the case that we are going to have to savor him a few more years before we get that chance.
So to get there, here is the dream sequence:

So...where to put John Edwards, rather, where is the best fit for Senator Edwards at this time?
If not POTUS or VPOTUS (at this time), I'd suggest that he would make a most wondrous replacement for John Ashcroft. So many possibilities! The future, once again, is looking bright.
But Clark, Dean and Edwards not only need to rise, Bush has to come down from his high-horse. Let George be George. Indeed. And simply say: This is not good enough.
May the Candidates themselves see the wisdom of such a ticket, and cease their vulgar attacks. They may all find a place in a Clark/Dean administration...but only if they behave.
This election is not simply about whose team wins. As America falls in the eyes of the world...it falls more generally. We are not on a sustainable path. Kant would call us insane. The next administration, and in particular the President, is going to have to correct the problem. Our domestic well-being is now largely hinged upon foreign policy and international relations. For this, I think, Clark would be the best fit. In every sense of the term. Clark is also older than Dean, which should count for something. It seems more natural to have the younger man in the junior position. And when the vote opens out to the general public, Clark will probably have more positives and less negatives than Dean. But Dean is essential as well.
Maybe they can work it out amongst themselves.
I hope they give it a thought. It may be the dream team...and, with John Edwards, dream sequence.

Mark Singer, of the New York Times, said of Dr. Dean: "He has a different timbre to his voice than the other candidates." This is true. I noted it myself while listening to the last debate...over the telephone! He may have looked like Hell, but Dr. Dean sounded like a real person...but more than that, he sounded like a caring, healing person.
And guess what? He IS a healing person. And among the best tools of a healer is simply a healing, reassuring voice. And if I were to offer a piece of advice to Dr. Dean, it would be this: Do not lose that healing tone. Rather know that you can indeed heal...millions...with your healing, healer's voice. Take doctoring to the max. Heal the entire world. You are a doctor. It is your JOB!
It is this thought that endears me to Dr. Dean, and makes me realize that all would be well under his care, as well as under Wes Clark.
It is this quality of caring that, I think, binds Clark, Dean and Edwards. Bush is simply a moneychanger. He is no doctor. He is no general. He is no John Edwards.

BLOGS: "idea farm" for the established media.

Political consultants, pundits, political columnists, political satirists, merlins, advisors, saints, prophets, pampleteers, and mudslingers alike are inhabiting and enlivening the journalistic forebrain... once a domain held by paid apologists and other sell-outs.
Not so anymore!
Bloggers have carpayed the blogospheric diem, and the brain-drain from traditional media organs is all but complete.
Just look at the current state of radio to catch a glimpse of how bad the situation has become in the Old Order.
Well...they dropped the ball. They became a bunch of lame Jayson Blairs, only lacking his boldness, though sharing his acceptance of lies for money.
Bloggers rarely get paid. We write because we love to write, and/or desire to be responsible stewards and expose what is wrong...as well as what is good.
This has vitality, urgency, elan. With no boss breathing down your neck, and censors ringing their bells of disapproval, the blogger gets to be a grown-up, lacking a whip or money to motivate her or him.
Long live free expression!
May the communication revolution continue to evolve democracy like edict never could.

Two shining lights went out this week, and the the great Stage of Life on which we unfurl our vague operas reflects less brilliant hues without them. Hope Lange was beloved by all who saw her, as she seemed to perfect mom, wife, friend and sister. But Alan Bates was eccentric, and not nearly so easy to define. I would suggest that he was, indeed, the King of Hearts...and as such probably felt that this warring world was not as good as an asylum, and thus checked out of this world, and into that asylum in the sky...where angels dance and sing their highest play, without the dread thump of marching boots.
I will miss our beloved king. May he rest in Peace. And may another King of Hearts come and rescue us from the mean masters who keep the players in uniform.
Life is fractal. Abhors a straight line.

A few decades ago I was talking to the photographer, Richard Avedon, who said the darnedest thing. He said that you can tell a Conservative (or maybe he said Republican) because he will have thin, pursed lips. After years of pondering and noticing this phenomenon, I have come to the realization that they have thin lips because they are trying to hold back...something. Usually lies. I know...I remember doing it myself.
Pay attention to the images you see of these politicos, and ask yourself: What are they holding back.
I think it goes deeper though. I think they are sending signals to their co-conspirators to keep their mouths shut. Not unlike that image of the gun pointing face-on with the words, "Whistle Blower" above it...so prevalent in the early months of the Bushreich.
Yesterday, I was reading a post on the Freeper site, FreeRepublic.com. One of the wingnuts had the moniker, "DenyDenyDeny".
How sad to have to live a lie, much less a whole host of them.

Bad Weather Follows Bush to Wright Brothers Centennial
Mr. Bush travelled to the Outer Banks today in order to participate in the Centennial of the first flight by the Wright Brothers...and it was rained out.
Sound familiar? His inaugural was rained out, as were a host of other events associated with Bush. Weather has basically sucked since Bush was Selected. But Gore warned us of Bush's effect on weather:
Al Gore also made two predictions for Wednesday's mood and weather. He then asked which of the two the people at the rally preferred. "You wake up early on Wednesday morning with a headache. Look out the window outside your window and there is a cold, driving rain with sleet and hail tapping on your window. The clouds have blackened out the dawn. You get out of bed slowly and walk toward the door and you stub your toe along the way. You push the door open and the newspaper is soaked through and through and is stuck to the front stoop. You peel the newspaper off and hold it up to the light in the gloomy darkness and through that light you barley make out a headline that says Bush wins."
The crowd booed and then Gore offered his second alternative.
"Now, imagine that on Wednesday morning, just before you awaken, a golden shaft of sunlight flickers on your eyelids," he continued. "You awaken refreshed and feeling wonderful. The aroma of fresh-brewed coffee wafts in from the kitchen. There are fresh cut flowers by your bedside table. Kathy Mattea is singing on the radio. You leap out of bed and dance your way to the front door. You hear birds chirping on the front porch. The sunlight is now making your face feel warm. You reach down and pick up the newspaper and it says Gore, Lieberman win."
The crowd cheered and then began to chant "We want Gore."
Well...his prediction was true...and it has remained true. The weather, the environment, it seems, is like 7-Up. You like it, It likes you.
And Bush has no respect for the environment. And it doesn't much care for him either.
Let's not make the same mistake twice!

Who wants to live like a Republican? Gephardt and Lieberman!
Both Dick and Joe have said: "If you want to live like a Republican, vote for a Democrat".
Well, thanks but no thanks. I live, and want to live, like a Democrat. I am comfortable in my own skin. I do not envy Republicans. Envy is their albatross. But if you guys want to...by all means...join Breaux. Go to Zell. I mean, Joe! You're a nice guy, but Chris Parnell you're simply not. And a damn shame. He's one of the few lights left on TV.
General Clark had a choice. And he is wealthy enough to live any way he wants. But what did he choose? He chose to live like a Democrat, and, in fact, to BE one. And he was proud of his decision. Lieberman seems embarrassed...and way too beholdened to Daddy Warbucks to be of much use to the guardians of the grail; the common well. Gephardt is a better Democrat, but he is too wooden and mechanical to represent conscious Democrats -- whose very illumination keeps America from sinking into darkness and corruption.
Short-sighted Lieberman sits there, amid boos and swindling (Oops! Freudian Slip!), I mean dwindling numbers, and spews the very ads the Republicans will launch against Dean when and if he rises to the Number 1 or Number 2 position. (I'm beginning to think a Clark/Dean ticket would be the strongest, given the zeitgeist they would be inheriting.)
Ogilvy could do no better than Lieberman and other "Democrats-in-name-only". Boys, snap to before the door snaps shut. Act your age not your shoe size.
One thing we bloggers know is that there are people who just cannot act like a gentleman, and try to win honestly and honorably, without resorting to self-destructive behaviors as viewed from the Party and the People.
Take a hint. Clay Aiken was voted best-behaved person of the year. Forget that he came in second. He wins nevertheless. Was not that first competition just a preliminary? An Iowa Caucus? Has he not been at least as much a winner has Rubin? And why? Because he was gracious and kind.
Be gracious and kind to one another. Treat each other like Clay. You may be amazed at the response. And win or lose...you still win.
A president doesn't just solve math problems (thank God especially now!). He or she has to be a shining example of what is best in America, because it is his or her face that means far more than a mere flag to our friends and neighbors abroad.
We need to truly restore honor and integrity, and a host of other virtues to America and the White House. Be the example. Be the Miracle.
You all have been given great gifts.

Sure Grover Norquist looks evil, but who would have thought that he actually was? Here is a damning article by David Horowitz on Grover's shady buddies and their shenanigans:

- Is this just an ego battle?
- Is Horowitz just "thinking with his blood"?
- Is Norquist really a facilitator to Islamic extremists?
And perhaps more importantly...
- Is Norquist just a fall guy to keep the heat off the White House?

Atrios and his regular commenters have been busy thinking up variations on Old Fashioned Patriot's "miserable failure" project of a couple months ago...this time the search terms are unelectable and vast right wing conspiracy.
Now, no offense to these fine people -- because, hey, I love the idea myself, as I've posted before -- but after giving this a bit of thought, I'm thinking there just might be an even better way to do it. The conclusion the ol' Mudshark has come to is: if ya wanna spread what some folks call memes (yeah, I know, I said I wouldn't use that word) about Shrub, then ya gotta use search terms that people will actually search for -- say, when doing research for a term paper or whatever. I mean, yeah, he may well be unelectable (without the aid of Diebold, at least), and he's indisputably a miserable failure, but how many people are actually gonna type those phrases into a Google searchbox?

750.000 US Dollars and Top 1%er Saddam Hussein FOUND Wallowing in Money, Karma & Humiliation inside a Filthy Hole in a Backward Country In the (snicker, snicker) Middle East
The ever-nutty Middle East kecked up their posterboy for riches today, and all the poor bastard had on him was a gun, a change of clothes, and a stack of American cash amounting to, oh, seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars. My guess is that hideholes in Iraq don't take Visa, otherwise he would have put it on credit, like every other sucker.
Let this be a lesson to anyone who thinks they can horde riches, kill innocent people, and strut around like a cock-of-the-walk. These are not the ingredients of a virtuous life.
This is the behavior of a megalomaniac. And megalomaniacs suck.
Do Americans horde riches? Do Americans kill innocent people? Do Americans strut around like cocks-of-the-walk? Generally, no. And unfortunately those that do wind up in positions where they can get more bang for their buck...which they also get.
We are not innocent, as a nation. Our leaders have put innocence to rest. Not to the extent that Saddam did, but enough that I would suggest that we question our own little megalomanias.
Why did Saddam feel like he needed great palaces in order to be happy and whole? Indeed, why does anyone? Maybe Saddam bought into the myth of that equation. And sadly many met their death that Saddam might actualize his ambition and greed.
Is there something innately wrong with ambition and greed? Something wrong with championing the overdog?
But alas, I wax philosophic. Today is a day for celebration, or at least relief that a murderous dictator has had his comeuppance.
Here's to an end to dictators! Long live the underdogs!
