BLOGGERS: Documenting the Media Coup of 2004
Teaching Newspeople the value of impartiality.
Holding them accountable for their crimes...captured in millions of recording homes.

Unmovable disinterest brings man into his closest resemblance to God (Truth). His purity is derived from it..." - Meister Eckhart
Disinterest does not mean uninterested, but rather having no special interest in the outcome (among other things)...or, in other words impartial; unbiased.
Who should be the paragons of disinterested impartiality if not those whose job's Hippocratic Oath, if you will, is to do just that -- namely, those who claim to provide the News. But most of those who are in such roles are mere posers, media whores, Mammon's puppets.
And these puppets are about to perpetrate a coup on the American people. They are going to do everything they can to shoehorn Bush and Cheney back into the White House...where they never belonged in the first place. And they are going to turn their backs on the Truth, and by doing so, reap their Faustian rewards, and forever lose the trust of humanity, and even God...who, as Eckhart says: "gives himself to the disinterested heart."
It is our job, as bloggers, to document this descent, and this attempted coup.
So...how can we make these folks understand our need for them to be impartial?
And what does it say about us that we want unbiased Truth?
Here's the deal, folks: The Truth always finds it way back to the light. And it exposes those forces of darkness that tried to suppress it.
Taoists keenly know this. And Taoists know that this current administration has, at every occasion, taken the path that is agaist the Tao. Against Nature. Against the Spirit. Or said differently...against Heaven AND Earth.
A pity really...for "what is against the Tao doesn't last long." A pity for those ignorant relative few who drank their poison koodade, and other pollutions.
And now they are polluting the Truth, and by doing so, polluting our minds and hearts.
Time to Flush Bush: Champion of Partiality and Division.
But as for us bloggers...it is, again, our job to document all the lies and distortions and diversions they hurl at us. For these things will come back to indict them.
Maybe then they will simply stick to the truth. And practice practice practice at becoming disinterested...even at the peril of their jobs.
Have they not squirreled away ANY F.U. money?

Anonymoses meets Elizabeth Edwards in Charlotte
From the Anonymoses NAMECALLING Series
CHARLOTTE--Fresh from a successful debate in Cleveland, Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of Senator John Edwards, brought her energy home to North Carolina and shared it with eager and exuberant Charlotteans. Among the eager and exuberant supporters was the blogger, Anonymoses Hyperlincoln, or he whom some call "Dave". More on that later.
But then again, I had a pad, and didn't use it. I suspect I was just as mesmerized by Mrs. Edwards and her guests as anyone else.
Her guests, whose names I sadly do not have, were two women whose lives have been direly impacted by Bush's poor judgement and decisions.
One young woman was in the Pentagon at the time of 9/11. She told us how she, and many others like her, were ushered out of the system in order to remove their own responsibility toward these unfortunates. Future unfortunates, I should say, as it was due to Bush and his policies that all she has was taken away.
The other guest had the room in tears, as she spoke of just how poorly the families of soldiers in Iraq are treated by the current misAdministration, and to a crowd largely made up of Veterans of Foreign Wars...who know this should not be happening, and feel, in their hearts, and identity with this young wife who is struggling, emotionally and financially, with the situation afforded her by George W. Bush, Man of the(rich)People.
During the visit, Mrs Edwards spoke on a broad range of topics, and showed that she has a grasp of the problems they will be facing, as well as the problems Americans are facing. But I really think people already know this about her. Most probably just want to meet her and exchange a few niceties, tips, and web addresses. So, again, I want to suggest that she relax, take it easy, have nice conversations with people...and not worry about making sure all the points are covered. There are too many to digest. This current administration has broken pottery in every way possible or imaginable. They are the anti-Tao, if you will...acting in direct antagonism to Nature and Spirit. Just seeing that you are genuine, authentic, honest, a champion of the people and truth...and yes, friendly, charming and graceful -- all of which come naturally -- is all she really need do. The rest is gravy. And I'm thankful for the gravy I sopped today. Hard to beat a good Southern gravy.
After wrapping up (which entails having operatives walk down the aisle with microphones in their hands, thus signalling Mrs Edwards that it was time for questions...and upon answering said questions...Mrs Edwards began greeting the crowd of well-wishers.
Being the gentleman that he is, Anonymoses Hyperlincoln, allowed elderly women to step in front of him, and have the first shake, all the while reminded of the saying about "the Baker serves his favorite last", and almost believing that, for some unknown reason, surely wrong, that he was, somehow, her favorite. Mrs' Edwards' reaction alerted him that this was indeed not the case, although she did spent a minute of two, and Mr. Hyperlincoln was able to congratulate her on her victory, and on her blogging. He said he wrote for Daily Kos and he was able to extend a greeting from the blogosphere. And he was able to invite her to come to his "Joycean blog, Anonymoses"...which she probably forgot just as quickly as she heard it.
A great visit. Try it.

Mr. Vice President, you are still not being straight with the American people. I mean, the reality you and George Bush continue to tell people, first, that things are going well in Iraq -- the American people don't need us to explain this to them, they see it on their television every single day. We lost more troops in September than we lost in August; lost more in August than we lost in July; lost more in July than we lost in June.
The truth is, our men and women in uniform have been heroic. Our military has done everything they've been asked to do.
And it's not just me that sees the mess in Iraq. There are Republican leaders, like John McCain, like Richard Lugar, like Chuck Hagel, who have said Iraq is a mess and it's getting worse.
And when they were asked why, Richard Lugar said because of the incompetence of the administration.
What Paul Bremer said yesterday is they didn't have enough troops to secure the country. They also didn't have a plan to win the peace. They also didn't put the alliances together to make this successful.
We need a fresh start. We need a president who will speed up the training of the Iraqis, get more staff in for doing that. We need to speed up the reconstruction so the Iraqis see some tangible benefit. We need a new president who has the credibility, which John Kerry has, to bring others into this effort.

Proto-YES band, Strawbs, comes to Charlotte
The late '60s and the early '70s were a most creative time in the Western World. Iconoclasts everywhere were shattering old idols, such as those that have been resussitated by the the squares among the Bushreich. In the arts, in film, in books, in lifestyles, and in music...staid, button-down, conservative bubble-gum music was being nudged out by orchestral rock, art-rock, progressive rock, not to mention the wondrous work by jazz and contemporary composers of "serious music".
Seminal in that vein, that throbbing vein of protean creativity, was a band called "Strawbs" -- who merged midaeval and renaissance music with ballads and progressive rock...among other things. And they did so, beautifully. And, thanks to the god of good things, they still do. And I was privileged to eye and earwitness it last night. I do get lucky sometime.

But curse the god who causes paragraphs to just vanish, because I just lost 5 good paragraphs which I am too pissed to repeat. Go see the goddam band.

"Help is on the way!"
A little something I wrote on the draft Kerry/Edwards site before Edwards was chosen...
I have long recognized that Edwards is one of the best things to happen to the Democratic Party, and, frankly, America, in a long time. So to see that someone had the foreskin, I mean foresight, to cobble together this wondrous tribute to our highest future, is, well, supercalifragilistic, if not expialidocious. Darned prescient too!
I would like to invite you to my little blog thang, whereon I have some of the best images of Gentleman Edwards I have yet to see. And, I would submit, a better choice than exists presently on this site. Think Diane Arbus. The opposite of Diane Arbus.In other words, use photos that bring out that which he naturally has, but which is often missed in photos. (And no, I am not talking about the mole!) I'm talking about his naturalness, integrity, intellectual curiosity, caring, listening, and his passion, intelligence, elegance, grace, and wit.
Things merely staged in the current officeholder.
God bless this endeavor. There IS hope in the world. Help is on the way...

Anonymoses' new poem debuts on Billy the Blogging Poet
The Virtual Poet Laureate of North Carolina, Billy the blogging poet (Jones) , has started a new feature on his awesome site. The Wednesday Guest Blogger Series. To kick off his new venture, Billy invited me to submit a poem or other written item...which I, miraculously, completed and submitted...and can be found here.
Rather than simply posting the poem, Billy went the extra mile and added a brief bio and some commentary. (Great job, Billy!).
The poem is called "The War Song of G. Dubya Bushrock", and is a BushWorld version of TS Eliot's classic Prufrock. Hope ya like it! I have to thank my old friend, Rob Urban, for turning me on to this poem back in the '70s, and for awakening in me a renewed interest in the poetic word. In one of Rob's poems, "Possibilities", he wrote of a future time where he drove a taxi in Manhattan. And now, 20 years later, he is indeed in Manhattan. But he is doing way better than he envisioned. He was also one of those brave souls who ran toward the WTC as it was crumbling down. And while he was inundated with dust and the smoke of death, he thankfully survived, and helped inform the world of what was happening. One of the heroes of that sad day.

GOOFUS AND GALLANT

First, on blogging, a couple of notes. Read Kos and found out about the NY Times piece on blogging -- thorough piece. I have traveled this road so long moving with the masters (in order to read them) from the acidic edge of newsgroups to the more definitive personalities of blogs. Today, too, Ed Cone's blog sent me to Mr. Sun (a new one for me) who was commenting on the (Greensboro) News and Record blog. He wrote, and it is true about this blog as well: "The blogs sound like the people I choose as friends: smart, informed, funny, curious, and imperfect." The genius of it is completely captured there. Even coverage by the NYT won't change 'em.

How Bush Terrorized America into War on Iraq in order to seize their Oil & Assets for Cheney & Friends
There's something almost obscene about a map that was studied by senior Bush administration officials and a select group of oil company executives meeting in secret in the spring of 2001. It doesn't show the kind of detail normally shown on maps - cities, towns, regions. Rather its detail is all about Iraq's oil.

Another interesting task force document, also released under court order over the opposition of the Bush administration, was a two-page chart titled "Foreign Suitors for Iraqi Oilfields." It identifies 63 oil companies from 30 countries and specifies which Iraqi oil fields each company is interested in and the status of the company's negotiations with Saddam Hussein's regime.

Yet the documents suggest that those who took part in the Cheney task force - including senior oil company executives - were very interested in Iraq's oil and specifically in the danger of it falling into the hands of eager foreign oil companies, rather than into the rightful hands of eager U.S. oil companies.

It seems likely then that Big Oil, through the Cheney task force, was involved in discussions with the administration about getting control of oil in Iraq. Since Big Oil has sought to distance itself from the administration's decision to invade Iraq, this apparent involvement helps explain the otherwise baffling level of secrecy surrounding the task force.

It's also noteworthy that one person - Dick Cheney - was pivotal both in advancing the administration's plans for regime change in Iraq and in formulating U.S. energy policy.

It was a big night for fans of Michael Moore in Syracuse last night. Moore spoke to a sold-out crowd of 10,000 at the Carrier Dome. Two large video screens flashed a video of John Ashcroft singing “Let the Eagle Soar” and Michael Moore appeared in jeans, black T-shirt, and a red baseball cap with an American flag on the front.

This is an answer to Bush's "I'm against evil you're for it" scenario. It's something Americans can instinctively understand; we've been living in the same world with dictators forever, even helping them, as in: Saddam. Once Bush's foolishly simplistic worldview is challenged, the rest comes tumbling down. The trick is to say it in ways that busy people working three jobs can quickly grasp, and to keep the focus on serious doubters in Bush's own party, like Chuck Hagel and Doug Bereuter, in every single press release.

In his essay, A National Catastrophe, Streiber deduces that the leaking of Valerie Plame's identity as a NOC (no official cover) agent of the CIA is the worst national catastrophe in American history.His final two paragraphs explore the motivations for this crime, and he concludes that the criminal who leaked her name is either a psychopath hell bent on initiating a nuclear Armageddon or a cynical and vindictive sociopath who deserves a severe dose of whatever is left of American justice.

The outing of Valerie Plame in the column of Robert Novak has now led to the resignation of Jim Pavitt from the CIA. Mr. Pavitt was Valerie Plame’s superior. His work has been devastated by this catastrophic security leak, and he has apparently chosen to resign as a result. The announcement of his retirement is the tip of an iceberg of national disaster.
Don’t believe for a moment the rantings of lying radio hosts about this case. Valerie Plame was no small fish. The revelation of her name is, in fact, the most serious intelligence disaster in the history of this country.

The rumor mill also has it that Karl Rove and Dick Cheney may be indicted in the matter.
Of course, this is a partisan time, so there’s no way of telling how true such rumors are. In any case, it doesn’t matter. How to Kill a Dragon: Aspects of Indo-European Poetics by Calvert Watkins
Occasionally, I like to see what my old professors are up to. One of my favorites was Cal Watkins, who taught a course in Indo-European, among other things. Who would have thought, at the time, how valuable it would be...even, and especially, in genealogical research.
Here is one of more recent endeavors, called How to Kill a Dragon: Aspects of Indo-European Poetics. Cannot wait to get a copy!

It investigates the nature, form and function of poetic expression and ancient literature among an impressive variety of Indio-European peoples. The author uses the traditional comparative method to identify the genetic intertextuality of particular themes and formulas common to all the daughter languages of ancient Indo-European. The work comprises seven sections and 59 chapters.

This work is an opus magnum, and it took me months to read it. Even so, I cannot claim to have grasped all the complexities of the fascinating text in which more than 30 familiar and obscure languages are quoted. I strongly recommend this masterpiece to those interested in ancient history, language and its structure, and to literary critics.

I haven't read this book, not really.. How could I? The author cheerfully quotes about fifty of the major Indo-European languages over an historical span of some 5,000 years. The Greek is in Greek (which I can barely spell) and (if you are like me) your knowledge of Luvian, Old German, and Sanskrit is probably a little bit rusty.
Nevertheless, it is absolutely one of the most fascinating books I have ever had in my hands. It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "tour de force."

None dare call it crusades, None dare call it Armageddon...
Time for a little peace, love and truth-tellingI just watched a History Channel video on The Crusades, just to gain a little information on that period for a dollar...the rental charge on the video.Turns out Damascus played an important role. I flash forward to the present news of Israel bombing Damascus and shake my head. Will this madness ever cease? Why can't we all just get along? Is God that deranged that he or she would not allow a sort of wise tolerance to enter into the souls of these endlessly warring peoples? I googlesearch the matter and stumble upon a page which bears this quote:The Prophet (pbuh) said: The place of assembly of the Muslims at the time of the Armageddon (al-Malhamah, the great war) will be in al-Ghutah near a city called Damascus, one of the best cities in Sham. (Abu-Dawud)...this makes me feel no better. No better at all. Even a little anxious. Bush's poll numbers are falling, badly, and when that happens...someone has to be kicked. Kicking dogs is illegal. Vicariousness is an intriguing concept, and one wonders if such things do not still go on among world leaders. We don't need no stinking religious war or religious victory. Blessed the peacemakers. All people are created equal. It is the handful who act otherwise. And sadly, it is that handful that currently rule the world.If mothers ruled the world, less children would die.Women...rise. Gaia is calling her daughters to save her from the rapists and child-killers. Sheesh! And to think Google caused all this!Let us make a detour around Armageddon. Among his main concerns was this: What to do with all the stuff accumulated over the years. It was almost as if he were enslaved by the things that weighed him down...namely things, nouns. While ruminating on the situation, a line from a book I had read long ago popped into mind. "Cain means ownership."It is from the book, "Love's Body", which was written just before the 60's began to take hold, in 1966 to be exact, by Norman O. Brown. I had read it in the '70s, and certain parts still inhabit portions of my not nearly so protean mind. This was one of them.But then, I found myself seeing how this "Cain means ownership" thing, could also explain many of the troubles currently infecting the globe. Not just Woody...who is an innocent victim of its clutches.Cain, as the story goes, killed his brother, Abel. There are, though, various iterations of what actually happened, and what is to be taken from the story. Laurence Gardner, for instance, talks about Cain's having been spawned from a different confluence of parentage than Abel, and that he had descended from the Annunaki, and was thus superior, by birth, to his entirely earthly half-brother, Abel. Things like that.And if this is to be taken to be the meaning that Norman Brown meant to convey, well then one must surmise that ownership is a right of children of Annunaki. Or maybe that these good folks have an onus to maintain the nouns of the earth. Something like that. But I don't think he was talking about esoteric understanding of the story of Cain and Abel. I think he is talking about the undergraduate view of the story, namely that Cain slew Abel, bla bla bla... And in this view, it seems well to explain how we, as contemporary Westerners treat property. We will kill our brother for it and over it.We at Anonymoses think this is a misprioritization. Whilst perusing Daily Kos, I ran across a discussion on how bad things will suddenly become if Bush is "re-elected".

You're hearing about Reserve and National Guard units being called up, and about people not allowed to leave the military even though their term is up. Have you thought about what this means to you? You KNOW this means they're having trouble finding enough soldiers to go to Iraq, right? Of course Bush doesn’t want to start the draft BEFORE the election. Duh! But what do you think happens the day AFTER the election?

Which candidate do you think is more likely to start a war with Iran, or Syria, or maybe even North Korea? Like Bush says, we're at war, and that's the issue in this election. Bush/Cheney & The Nightly News: Too little too late
What do the Bush/Cheney administration have in common with the Nightly News?
In a phrase: "Too little, too late."
After three years of sluggish incompetence, the Bush/Cheney administration is trying to calim any recent uptick as proof of their good works. But it is too little, too late.
The Nightly News, bless their hearts, has 15 or 20 minutes to funnel the world into a news capsule for popular consumption. But invariably it is too little, too late.
And they waste their 15 minutes on Michael Jackson and poorly cloaked pharmaceutical ads deguised as news.

Exposing more 9/11 lies: The Things We Breathed
I knew they were lying to us at the time, and now, after time has passed, the truth starts to come out...

On the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the air was not so bad. Nothing like what the folks at the tip of the island had to suffer. But it was bad enough to kill the flowers. It was bad enugh that we had to put wet towels over our air conditioners to keep down the particulates. But it was "perfectly safe"...at least according to the official reports at the time. Some people actually believed it. I was not one of them.
I knew I was breathing asbestos, burnt human remains, and all manner of horrible substances. And I knew I was just one of millions who were also told to stay put.
Were the truth known, there may well have been a total evacuation. That is, if you weren't leaving by plane. They were grounded.
The fires burned for weeks and weeks, and there was an occasional respite, when the wind shifted directions and blew the smoke, pollution and burnt remains away from the bulk of the island.
I once tried talking a walk through Central Park, a few days after September 11th, but the air was so unsustaining that I had to lie down and fall asleep...which I did for Lord only knows how long.
But look. Rather than trying to make people afraid, let me say instead that most people survived. And some may walk away entirely unscathed.
And surely people in, say, Tulsa or Phoenix or Butte, Montana needn't worry about terrorism, as the likelihood of it reaching them is microscopically thin indeed. And small towns should worry even less.
The best way to beat terrorism is to never fear. Once you fear, they have won.
There should be classes in fearlessness, like happens amongst Buddhists. If no one feared, terrorism would dry up. So again...there is nothing to fear but fear, itself.
I will probably write more about Fearlessness education, as I do think it is a low-cost way to win and even win-win...as having fearlessness is a virtue in and of itself. Like Patience.

A Cure for Ye Hiccups
Ahhh Choo!
Some people say that when they sneeze, they see God, or in some other way, lose their mind. And it has been said that when John sneezed, he became anonyMoses. We think this is an urban myth, even with photographic evidence. We just like being sceptical. Keeps us feeling manly.
AnonyMoses, other than being the person who is typing these words, is also the person who invented the cure for hiccups.
The cure involves no snake oil, no hokus-pokus, no standing on your head while throwing salt over your shoulder. But it does involve one of the few elements that are actually involved in said hiccup. Breathing.
Normally when you breathe, your breath runs along a track. Back and forth. But it needn't be on a back and forth track. In fact it is that moment when the inspiration becomes the expiration, and vice versa, which is part of the problem.
To remedy the problem, here is what you do:
1. Breathe in a slow, steady figure-8.
Simple enough, isn't it?
It usually knocks out the problem immediately, although you may experience one or two hiccups as you're getting the knack. You will find that it helps if you slow your breathing down as it rounds the turn from being an exhalation to and inhalation, and vice versa.
This type of breathing has many other uses, such as prolonging life, increasing awareness, relieving suffering and anxiety, and so on. But for hiccups, there is no better remedy.
And it's free. And prop-free as well. Not even a glass of water.

Other acquaintances allege that as a 26-year-old National Guard, Bush "liked to sneak out back for a joint or into the bathroom for a line of cocaine".
Bush has admitted being an alcoholic but, asked during the 1999 election if he did drugs, he said: "I've told the American people that years ago I made some mistakes.
"I've learned from my mistakes and should I be fortunate enough to become president I will bring dignity and honour to the office."

Former student Torbery George says in the book: "Poor Georgie. He couldn't relate to women unless he was loaded."
Another says: "He went out of his way to act crude. It's amazing someone you held in such low esteem later became president."

What if George had not been treated as a medical case, but instead, as a criminal case...like most people? Would his prison time have prevented him from voting, much less becoming the President of the United States?
He should come clean, and be glad that he was treated so kindly. He should also consider those who are now serving in his absence...just as in Vietnam. And he should lead a fight to begin treating addicts medically, and work toward their becoming a healthy addition to America, rather than a permanent liability.

Zell Miller: The Face of Conservatism
The Face of Conservatism
What is it with the Millers? The Strange Case of Zell and Dennis Miller.
Republican Party found to be harboring Conservatives...
but the Democratic Party is not without then either.
In fact they have harbored Zell Miller and Gary Condit...
...two strong Conservatives, who are really more Conservative than they are Democrats, and admittedly so.
Zell Miller complains about "his party leaving HIM". Well, what would you expect when the feller acts like an adolescent hothead? What is a gentleman to do? Respect the man for acting like a boor and a madman? This sort of behavior might be fine, even de rigour, for Conservatives, but frankly it is too intolerant, too illiberal, for the mainstream of America, and it is certainly over the top for the gentle and kind Liberal.
But now that I have had time to think about the matter, I am glad that he exposed not only the content, but also the style of today's Conservative. It may well prove to be the very tipping point where people realize Liberal is not such a bad thing, and Conservative is not such a good thing.
After all...today, the real fringe, the real radicals, are on the Right, not the Left. The Left are really only just those with the backbone to stand up to the Right. In every other way, they are the center.
The Left is the defender of the center in more ways than one. The Left defends the common well; air, water, peace... the things we all cherish and, usually, share. The Right, however, is trying to privatize water, in fact they already are, and they have privatized not Peace, but War...and it won't be long before they privatize air. But some things should be geyond mere purchase by the highest bidder. It is this sharing of the common well that has been where politics end. But no longer. And it is time to become a little more traditional in this sense of protecting the well.
And the Center should not resent the Left for fighting to protect it. It is their children and grandchildren who will most benefit, or failing the help, suffer its loss.
It really is a time for a kinder, gentler America. At home AND abroad. Zell Miller ain't it. Pat Buchanan ain't it. Rush Limbaugh ain't it. O'Reilly certainly ain't it. And the Conservatives, of which these are all big stars, ain't it.
Republicans should think twice about harboring these hothead, intolerant, illiberal radicals. The Democrats, you can bet, will. Mean-spiritedness may play well in certain televangelized congregations in holdout haunts in the Deep South, but it cuts against the grain of common decency most everywhere else. The world certainly finds these intolerant cults to be atavistic and counter-productive.
